Etapa 5: ‘Le savoir faire’ francés… De Rennes al L’Hôtel Particulier Ascott

Sin haber leído nada sobre Rennes, cuando llegas y paseas por sus calles en cuadrícula diseñadas por Jaques Gabriel -padre del mismisimo Ange-Jacques Gabriel artífice de la Plaza de la Concordia de Paris- o cuando ves los edificios señoriales o las casas del siglo XV, de madera, con voladizos de colores, o cuando ves sus restaurantes o terrazas del centro histórico, o las tiendas… lo primero que te viene a la cabeza es: elegancia. O quizás es porque la restauraron y recuperaron lo mejor de la ciudad hace poco, o porque ves a una pareja que no pueden ser mas guapos y más elegantes y más franceses. El ‘savoir faire’, que dicen.

Por ello, lo mejor de Rennes es ir despacio y mirar, aunque haya obras en la catedral, aunque haga un calor infernal. Rennes es para contagiarse.
En plan contagio estábamos cuando oímos: «¡Anda, que estos son de mi pueblo!» Efectivamente, de Puertollano, provincia de Ciudad Real. Que estamos en todas partes, que estamos de moda. Unas fotos, unas alegrías, unas voces de las nuestras y a seguir paseando para asimilar el ‘savoir’ francés, que el manchego ya lo llevamos puesto.

Lo que tocaba era descubrir qué es el ‘savoir faire’ y lo descubrimos entre Rennes y un pequeño hotel de Saint-Malo, L’Hôtel Particulier Ascott 1890. Se lo recomendaríamos a España entera si nos leyeran. Si alguien dice que los hoteles franceses son malos es porque no han ido a los de cinco estrellas o a este o a otros muchos muy parecidos que me consta que hay por toda Francia.

Una pareja administra el hotel como su casa. Hasta el ultimo detalle ha sido buscado para que sus invitados se sientan bien. Decimos invitados porque tratan con la cortesía de principios del siglo pasado, vamos, como si fueras de veraneo a la casa de tu prima la Duquesa. Desde el caramelo de bienvenida a la amabilidad de quien te recibe; de las cortinas, al yogur del pueblo o al pastel recién hecho, de la arquitectura de la escalera a los suelos de madera o baldosines del siglo XIX todo ha sido escogido con mimo, para gustar, para que te sientas bien. El resultado: elegancia, y el ‘savoir faire’ francés en estado puro. Mira, ya lo hemos descubierto.

  1. La vida y el estrés me han impedido ir siguiendoos.
    Ahora, tumbado en la cama del Lope, con A/A, después del viaje, por cierto sin tráfico para ser 31 de julio, y sin niños ni esposa, puedo dedicar tiempo a descubrir maravillas francesas, mal que me pese.
    Me doy cuenta, que mis viajes de trabajo nos permiten ver en detalle. Estas cosas tan estupendas.
    La verdad es que tenemos un viaje pendiente a Francia……
    Ya os seguiremos , al menos en parte del trayecto.
